Operating Theatre Cleaner
Weymouth Street Hospital, part of Phoenix Hospital Group, are seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Out of Hours Operating Theatre Cleaner to join our Facilities team at Weymouth Street Hospital. This is a vital role supporting our surgical services during out-of-hours periods, ensuring our operating theatres and associated clinical areas maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and infection prevention.
As the successful Operating Theatre Cleaner, you will play a key part in the safe and efficient turnaround of theatres between procedures including emergency and late-running cases helping to minimise delays and uphold exceptional patient care standards in line with CQC fundamental standards and national healthcare cleanliness guidelines.
Please note that this role will primarily cover night shifts and is a physically demanding role with strict adherence to hygiene protocols.
Operating Theatre Cleaner
Key Responsibilites:
- Carry out thorough terminal and deep cleaning of operating theatres between cases and at the end of surgical lists, following strict decontamination protocols.
- Restock theatre consumables and ensure appropriate stock levels for upcoming procedures.
- Respond promptly to emergency or late-running theatre requests to ensure rapid turnaround.
- Report maintenance or equipment issues promptly to the Theatre Manager or Facilities Team.
- Participate in environmental audits and infection control spot checks.
Qualifications and Skills:
Essential:
- Previous hospital or clinical cleaning experience (operating theatres or high-risk clinical environments preferred).
- Strong understanding of infection prevention and control in healthcare settings. Ability to work nights, weekends, bank holidays, and flexibly to meet service demands.
- Physically fit and able to undertake manual handling and prolonged standing. Reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Desirable:
- NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning & Support Services or equivalent qualification. Experience in a private hospital environment.
- Familiarity with CQC standards and national healthcare cleanliness frameworks. Previous theatre porter or housekeeping experience.
