Registered Nurse - Outpatients/Day Care

One Hatfield Hospital, Hertfordshire has a vacancy for a Registered Nurse - Outpatients/Day Care to join the team.

As a Registered Nurse in Outpatients or Day Care, you will be providing a high standard of individualised patient care, ensuring the comfort and safety of patients within the department, before, during, and after medical procedures and surgery. The role will involve collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring compliance in line with national best practice standards.

Main responsibilities & duties of the role

  • Identify patient care requirements by establishing a rapport, providing emotional and psychological support to the patient as well as to their family/carer.
  • Carry out clinical nursing procedures, taking bloods, and cannulation desirable.
  • Maintain surgical and nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies and working with Procurement to ensure requirements are met.
  • Report changes and concerns regarding patients' health to Outpatients or Day Care Lead and RMO.
  • Provide healthcare advice, education for patients/family/carers on their condition, medications, self-care and health maintenance, answering any questions they may have
  • Observe, chart the symptoms and progress of patients, recording and maintaining accurate patient medical records and histories on the relevant IT systems.
  • Resolve patient issues and needs, and create customised plan of care through working collaboratively with other departments.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with NMC

Experience

  • Clinical nursing experience in medical/surgery care, preferably with Outpatients and/or Day Care experience.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required.

Skills

  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills in the nurses area of clinical practice, including phlebotomy, cannulation and ECGs.
  • Sound written, numerical and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound computer skills using MS Office Suite/Excel and web based reporting systems.
  • Demonstrate customer service skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the business and department.

Desirables

  • Experience in the private sector especially in a Day Care environment.
  • Participate in audit processes for monitoring nursing quality and maintain standards for NMC, NICE and CQC requirements.
  • Reporting of incidents via Datix.

Hours: 37.5 hours across a 5/7 day shift pattern with full flexibility.
