Switchboard Operator

Switchboard Operator

One Healthcare, a Private Hospital Group, based in Ashford, Kent is looking for a Switchboard Operator to join our front of house team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day to day activity of calls that are received by the hospital and will be responsible for successfully fielding them to the correct departments. Our switchboard operators will be also be responsible for managing our general enquiries inbox, keeping it up to date.

Our switchboard is manned between 08:00 and 20:00, Monday to Friday. The hours will be split across two shifts. One shift is 08:00 14:00 and one shift 14:00 20:00; this will be on a weekly rota, alternating early and late shifts.

As part of the front of house team, the Switchboard Operator is responsible for ensuring our telephone and email enquiries are handled professionally at all times and ensuring efficiency and accuracy in fielding the calls.

Qualifications

  • GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent qualification

Experience

  • Previous experience of dealing with customers either over the phone or face to face

Skills

  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Basic IT skills
  • Achievement focused and willing to work well under pressure

Desirables

  • Working or have previously worked in a healthcare environment would be an advantage but not essential

Switchboard Operator Main Responsibilities

Handling Telephone Calls:

  • Fielding calls to the correct departments from the main switchboard phone
  • Handling enquiries by asking the appropriate questions and ensuring the call
  • Taking detailed and accurate messages and ensuring these are then sent to the correct recipient via email
  • Escalating any concerning phone calls to your line manager or department manager to ensure patient safety is maintained

Inbox Management:

  • To manage the general enquiries inbox, making sure these emails are diverted to the correct departments
  • To ensure the inbox is kept up to date and checked throughout the day
  • To escalate any concerning emails to your line manager or department manager to maintain patient safety

Main Reception Cover:

  • As part of this role you will be learning the main reception job to ensure cover can be maintained should the need arise for the business
