Join our team of experienced Facilitators who already do an excellent job in a location close to Harrow, North West London.

Reporting directly to the Learning and Outreach Manager, you will deliver unparalleled levels of service to clients ranging from 18 years old to middle age. Each of our clients has challenging needs and helping them is one of the most rewarding career choices one can make.

Abilities Development Ltd is a private organisation founded in 2011 by a former qualified special needs teacher. The company has grown from strength to strength and offers specialised services to individuals with learning disabilities. One of objectives is to provide solutions to young people with disabilities so that they can access opportunities and enhance their lifestyle within the home, during school and beyond school.

Main duties and responsibilities:

1. Catering for specific additional needs of the clients, including assisting with personal hygiene tasks, hoisting and positioning, PEG feeding, eating and drinking, administering medication and monitoring general well-being amongst other tasks.

2. Ensuring the health needs of clients are met at all times.

3. Recognising and responding to clients who have communication barriers and understanding how clients communicate and responding accordingly. Promote the use of Makaton and other alternative communication with our client group.

4. Recognise signs of agitation and/or challenging behaviour in clients and respond appropriately with effective strategies.

5. Undertaking key-working responsibilities which may include planning, coordinating and participating in multi-disciplinary, IPP and review meetings.

6. Contribute towards a high-quality learning environment by thoughtful presentation of clients work, creation of displays and maintaining equipment and resources to a high standard.

7. Cooperate with other professionals visiting the Centre and/or working with clients, such as Therapists, Agency teachers, Social Workers or other agencies.

8. Assist Senior Facilitators in delivering planned programmes of learning for individuals, small groups and classes, as directed by the pre-designed programmes.

9. Actively observing, assessing and recording progress made by clients, in line with the Centre's systems for recording progress completing appropriate records for clients allocated to you; or for any other purpose set out to benefit the learner (e.g. behavior monitoring, epilepsy monitoring).

10. Assist clients in using adaptive equipment/aids required to enable them to participate in activities more fully and where necessary, attend training to be able to operate adaptive equipment effectively.

11. Escorting clients to and from Centre as well as to access community based services and activities.

12. Participating in the development, implementation and review of programmes and interventions which are designed for individual clients.

13. Flexibility in working across bases to support the needs of the clients

Knowledge and Experience:

Experience of working with adults or young adults with learning difficulties

NVQ Level 2 or higher qualification

An understanding of how different disabilities can affect a learners ability to take part or contribute to activities.

A vocational qualification relevant to working with adults with profound and severe learning difficulties, e.g. Makaton Signing.

An understanding of health and safety in the workplace, including issues specific to young people with learning difficulties.
