Abilities Development Ltd is a private organisation founded in 2011 by a former qualified special needs teacher. The company has grown from strength to strength and offers specialised services to individuals with learning disabilities. One of objectives is to provide solutions to young people with disabilities so that they can access opportunities and enhance their lifestyle within the home, during school and beyond school.

PURPOSE OF JOB:

Prepare well balanced, cultural varieties and delicious meals for our clients. Plan weekly menus and use different healthy methods of cooking whilst creating and new menu ideas.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Set up workstation with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment

2. Know each clients dietary needs and other eating and drinking needs

3. Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.) to the specifications of the clients

4. Make adjustments to food items to accommodate clients with allergies or specific diet concerns

5. Maintain records and logs of regulated tasks such as fridge and freezer temp logs, cooked food temperatures, cleaning logs, etc.

6. Prepare food for clients while following guidelines laid out in quality control standards and local regulations.

7. Operate various kitchen appliance such as a blender, oven, grill or stand mixer safely

8. Work safely around kitchen equipment and report any maintenance issues to the manager

9. Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen; properly dispose of waste in appropriate receptacles.

10. Maintain utensils such as knives and other kitchen equipment in safe and appropriate working condition as well as ensure that all utensils are clean before each use.

11. Ensure all food and other items are labelled and stored properly

12. Monitor stock and prepare shopping lists

13. Purchase ingredients and spices for meals on a scheduled basis

14. Keep records and accounts of food purchases

15. Clean equipment, kitchen and other resources on a regular basis.

16. Monitor all equipment and log breakage, damage etc. immediately and use the appropriate tools and software[KM1]

17. Complete all appropriate company documentation and key tasks, on every shift

18. Provide a high standard of customer service at all times, ensuring all clients are treated with dignity, courtesy and respect.

19. Be an ambassador for the Company, behaving in a courteous and professional manner to clients, their families, carers and colleagues in line with the Employee Code of Conduct.

20. Develop good and effective internal and external working relationships with all the relevant stakeholders.

21. To carry out all duties with regard to the provisions of health and safety legislation, Data protection legislation and the Companys Equal Opportunities and all Company Policies and Procedures.

Requirements:

1. Proven experience as cook

2. MUST have certification in Food and Hygiene and

Food Handling

3. Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and

bakeware

4. Knowledge of various cooking procedures and

methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)

5. Ability to follow all sanitation procedures

6. Very good verbal and written communication skills

Basic Computational Skills, Organisational Skills

7. Excellent physical condition and stamina

8. High school diploma or equivalent; Diploma from a

culinary school will be an advantage

9. Strong knowledge of proper food handling procedures

10. Ability to develop good and effective working

relationships with all relevant stakeholders

11. Self-motivated and able to use own initiative

12. Flexible and pro-active approach to work
