Carer Requirements
What you will be doing for our Clients as a Carer, learning disabilities:
- Engaging clients within the community and maximise opportunities for activity, education and employment. Facilitate and promote client involvement across the services and the organisation.
- Implement and deliver agreed individual activities/social engagement and accompany clients on external activities (including weekends and evenings).
- Encourage independence and choice in a person-centred way in line with agreed care needs according to the care plan.
- Cater for specific additional needs of the clients, including assisting with personal hygiene tasks, hoisting and positioning, PEG feeding, eating and drinking, administering medication and monitoring general well-being amongst other tasks.
- Update and review clients individual care plans, risk assessments, progress /monitoring and any other relevant assessments on an ongoing basis, ensuring the records are accurate.
- Work without direct supervision including lone working as directed by the Manager or delegated Senior staff.
- Manage own time effectively ensuring the clients needs are met.
- Provide the highest level of personal care and attention to clients and following health care procedures (e.g. administering prescribed medication as identified within the support plan).
- Deal promptly with conflicts and incidents using appropriate strategies to prevent and manage challenging behaviour.
- Recognising and responding to clients who have communication barriers and understanding how clients communicate and responding accordingly. Promote the use of Makaton and other alternative communication with our client group.
- Support clients to develop their independence
Skills and Qualifications required as a Carer, learning disabilities:
To succeed in the role of Carer you will require:
- Knowledge or previous experience working in a healthcare environment
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Flexible and pro-active approach to work
- NVQ level 2 in Health & Social Care
- Willingness to learn
- Positive attitude
